It’s a new year for new beginnings! With December as the most popular month to get engaged according to TheKnot.com and WeddingChannel.com, there are plenty of future brides who are now flooding their Pinterest boards with wedding ideas. Planning a wedding is exciting, but let’s face it, the term ‘bridezilla’ exists for a reason.
There are so many details and layers to take into account when planning this once-in-a lifetime event – venue, flowers, food, music…the list goes on and on. At Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel, there are dozens of weddings held each year, and the weddings that take place at the seven-acre Bel Air property can be customized to fit any couple’s wants and needs.
The ability for the property to be so versatile and to serve as a ‘one-stop-shop’ is a huge advantage for clients. Judith Feldman, the special events director and her team of event and catering managers have created many relationships with vendors, so that the shopping around can be left up to the events team and the bride-to-be’s stress can be alleviated.
Let’s take Simone and Daksh, a beautiful couple who got married two months ago in November at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel. These two came into each other’s lives so unexpectedly and come from different backgrounds, which made for an interesting, sweet story.
Daksh, the groom, made his way into Simone’s life when her close friend met him online through Facebook. Daksh and Simone’s friend dated, but she soon realized that Simone would be a much better fit. The two met, and the rest is history.
The couple’s hunt for the perfect Southern California wedding venue came to a pleasant halt when they met with Shatara Watley, one of the special events managers at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel. “The couple was keen on our property because they live right up the street in the Brentwood/Bel Air area. With our customizable wedding packages, the couple was able to tailor it to their liking.” said Shatara. With such distinct backgrounds, it was important to the couple that they honor traditions from their heritages.
The ceremony, held in The Luxe Terrace, which is a 1500 sq. ft. Mediterranean garden was beautifully garnished with bright colors and traditional decor honoring the groom’s background. Female guests wore vibrant-colored saris, which beautifully complemented the ceremony.
The reception was held in the Luxe Sunset Ballroom, which is a stunning 4500 sq. ft. ballroom with seating for up to 300 guests. When it was time for dinner, the food was definitely not your typical ‘check this box if you want chicken’ type of meal. Most wedding venues will provide options of set menus, leaving very little room for versatility and customization. However, Executive Chef Olivier Rousselle of On Sunset was able to create a custom menu to satisfy the couple’s wishes to include traditional dishes from each of their countries.
The menu consisted of signature dishes from India and Brazil, including a Brazilian fish stew called moqueca de peixe and spicy lamb curry, as lamb is a popular protein in the Indian culture. For dessert, the couple opted to skip the typical wedding cake and went with a wide assortment of sweet treats. The evening was wrapped up with a lot of dancing, eating and loved ones.
